NPR: Sensual Sounds Can Get Lost In Translation

Everyone knows what a smile looks like, but apparently how we sound to one another changes from culture to culture.
Why the problem communicating good times? Positive feelings can promote social cohesion, the researchers surmise, so it might not be a good idea to share them with someone outside the group. These include sounds for emotions evoked by pride and relief and making love.
